Q4/2023 Newsletter

The CE Hub Newsletter has been back to bring you the exciting recap of the last three months of 2023 and an opening for 2024.
Some highlights:
  • Viet Nam Circular Economy Forum 2023 returned: the event held in November under the theme “Building a National Action Plan on Circular Economy” fostered vibrant discussions, strategic planning, and concrete action plans to transform Vietnam’s economic model.
  • UNDP material flow analysis to light the path: Within the Forum’s dynamic landscape, UNDP, in collaboration with the Thua Thien-Hue Institute for Development Studies, unveiled a pioneering material flow study. This pioneering analysis offers a data-driven roadmap for crafting effective policies and accelerating Vietnam’s journey towards a circular economy.
  • UNDP and GIZ join forces to drive circularity: UNDP and the CE Hub, with crucial funding from BMZ and support from GIZ, launched a pilot initiative for a secondary materials exchange with the aim to revolutionise the trading and exchange of recycled plastics and textiles.
  • Binh Dinh’s Material Recovery Facility to redefining plastic waste management: this Binh Dinh MRF is estimated to recover an additional 2-4 tons of plastic per day, reducing landfill waste by 1 ton and creating over 200 jobs for local workers. Private companies like waste collectors and recyclers are also on board, making this a paradigm of PPP in waste management.
  • Draft decree opens door for CE projects: The Ministry of Planning and Investment sought public feedback on its draft Decree establishing pilot mechanisms for circular economy projects across four key sectors: agriculture-forestry-fishery, manufacturing, renewable energy, and construction materials.
  • Ecolabel empowers consumer to make green choice: Consumers can now make informed choices for a greener future thanks to the Vietnam Ecolabel for environmentally friendly plastic packaging, launched by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in November.

These are just some brief snapshots of the circular scene in the last few months. There are more updates, case studies and learning documents for you to explore here.
