The Circularity Gap Report 2023

The global economy is now only 7.2% circular, driven by rising material extraction and use. This is due to the fact that more and more materials are going into stocks such as roads, homes and durable goods, leaving fewer materials to cycle back into the economy. A circular economy focused on cycling alone cannot keep up with virgin material use, so it is critical to transform our relationship with materials to maximise benefits for people and to minimise the pressure on the planet’s life support systems. Adopting a circular economy could reverse the overshoot of planetary boundaries and slash the global need for material extraction by about one-third. This report examines the impact of circular materials management on air and water pollution, waste, nature degradation and loss, and more.

Proceedings of the conference “Promoting innovation towards realizing circular economy in Viet Nam”

With the aim of enhancing academic and practical exchange, seeking initiatives, and providing a forum for domestic and international scholars, experts, and businesses to discuss the scientific basis, business international experience, and realizing circular economy in Viet Nam, on July 13, 2022, the Institute of Strategy and Policy on natural resources and environment in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation held a workshop with the theme “Promoting innovation towards realizing circular economy in Viet Nam”. The conference has received the attention of many domestic and foreign agencies, organizations, and scientists. In addition to the papers presented at the conference, the Organizing Committee selected 25 articles to be submitted to publish the Conference Proceedings. This is a valuable resource for reference to serve the process of researching and developing the National Action Plan on the circular economy in the coming time.

Circular Economy Roadmap in Da Nang city

This proposal is made based on updated content of the Summary Report of the Research on building and developing circular economy in Da Nang City, on the basis of adopting relevant documents associated with the Law on Environmental Protection 2020, supplementing lessons learned from the policy experiment on circular economy in Da Nang City, incorporating gender equity issue and recognizing the importance of an informal waste collection system in the transition to a circular economy model of Da Nang City.
