The workshop on orientations for the national and local circular economy development action plan by hue institute for development studies cooperates with institute of strategy and policy on natural resources and environment (under the ministry of natural resources and environment) took place was released on november 30, 2022, with the participation of nearly 50 delegates from agencies, departments, people’s committees of districts and towns in thua thien hue province, and a number of agencies in other provinces’ vicinity.
The circular economy is receiving an increasingly strong social response. Vietnam has been developing criteria, a roadmap and perfecting the legal system to promote the development of circular economic models. Thua Thien Hue orients to build and develop a green and sustainable locality, develop rapidly on the knowledge base, and develop sustainably based on the culture. Since then, local authorities have prioritized supporting businesses and investors to produce and trade green, environmentally friendly products, and to apply circular economy for sustainable development. However, for the circular economy to be implemented effectively in the first phase, it is important to select priority areas of focus for transformation.
From the representative of Hue Institute for Development Studies, PhD. Cung Trong Cuong (Director) proposed areas and activities for the initial implementation of the local circular economy, such as sustainable agriculture and smart urban services,… The Institute will continue to advise and propose the province to develop an action plan on the circular economy for the period of 2022-2030 and a vision to 2045, along with piloting a number of appropriate models after the assessment and selection of priorities in the period of 2022 – 2025. According to Mr. Cung Trong Truong, the triangle to promote the circular economy will be technology, business, and logistics.
In order to implement the circular economy specifically, Hue Institute for Development Studies is collaborating with UNDP Vietnam to conduct a metabolic analysis of the circular economy. Support from experts will help to understand what are the key areas to focus on for the circular economy transformation as well as what are the steps to implement a circular economy in the locality of Thua Thien Hue. UNDP Viet Nam highly appreciate the cooperation between the two sides to achieve the common goal of reducing emissions and combating global climate change. Representative of UNDP Vietnam, Mr. Patrick Haverman – Deputy Chief Resident Representative, wishes to continue accompanying Hue Institute for Development Studies in promoting the development of the circular economy in the locality.
The discussion part of the workshop also received many shares and comments from representatives of departments, and People’s Committees of districts and towns. We noted in the process of implementing the implementation plan and the upcoming orientation.
