According to estimates by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), by 2030 if development continues with a linear economic model (based on the process of exploitation, production, consumption and finally disposal into the environment), the world’s demand for natural resources will increase 3 times compared to today, exceeding the Earth’s supply capacity, the amount of waste will exceed the carrying capacity limit of the environment. That reality leads to an urgent need to find a more effective and sustainable economic model for using natural resources, reducing pollution and environmental degradation, and responding to global climate change. Realizing the long-term benefits of circular economy, many countries around the world have transformed their economies from a linear economy to a circular economy, from a brown economy to a green economy.
