Pre-consumer textile waste recycling in Viet Nam

As the world’s third-largest apparel exporter and second-largest footwear exporter, Viet Nam generates a substantial amount of industrial textile waste. By adopting improved waste management practices and textile recycling processes, the textile & footwear industries in Viet Nam can gain a competitive edge in meeting incoming market demands and requirements for more circular products.

GIZ Viet Nam is delighted to present the study report on “Pre-consumer textile waste recycling in Viet Nam”. Based on hands-on research from 2023 to 2024, this study provides estimations of pre-consumer textile waste generated in Viet Nam, an overview of the textile waste value chain and its main actors, pathways for textile recycling, and challenges along with opportunities for advancing the country’s textile circularity. It informed the set-up and implementation of the “Waste No More” initiative by GIZ to close the loop in Viet Nam’s textile sector.
