Experts assembled to draft National Action Plan on circular economy

Ha Noi, August 3  –  5, 2023 – The Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) orchestrated a writeshop, assembling experts and policy makers to discuss and complete the  draft of the National Action Plan on Circular Economy Implementation to submit it to the Prime Minister for approval by the end of 2023.

The camp was an opportunity for experts to discuss in depth the important components of the National Action Plan, including strategic and specific objectives, key areas of circular economy implementation, assignment of tasks, activities, responsibilities of ministries, etc.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Mai Thanh Dung, Deputy Director of ISPONRE, said that the  National Action Plan played a key role in promoting the circular transformation of Vietnam’s economy as the document would serve as a specific guide to actions,  coordination among agencies, ministries and departments at national and local levels to develop a roadmap for transition to a circular economy.

“UNDP is pleased to continue to coordinate and support the development of the draft National Action Plan following the process of coordinating with ISPONRE and related units to integrate the circular economy in the Law on Environmental Protection 2022 and Decree 08/2022/ND-CP guiding the implementation of the Law on Environmental Protection and Development of the Vietnam Circular Economy Hub, “, said Mr. Hoang Thành Vinh, Programme Analyst responsible for chemicals, waste, and circular economy and ocean portfolio at UNDP.

The workshop drew the participation of over 20 prominent experts representing organizations and agencies including ISPONRE, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City, the National Economics University, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Office of the National EPR Council, the Institute for Environmental Economic Policy, and UNDP.
