The Viet Nam Circular Economy Hub (CE Hub) Newsletter for the third and fourth quarter of 2024 is packed with updates on important events, learning resources, and community initiatives promoting a circular economy in Viet Nam.

- News:
- Kick-off of Waste Sorting at Source Program and Inauguration of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Quy Nhon City: In September, UNDP and Quy Nhon City launched the Waste Sorting at Source Program and inaugurated a Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The program will pilot waste sorting with 8,000 households and expand citywide by July 2025. Recyclables from households will be transferred to the MRF, which has the capacity to recover 2 – 4 tons of plastic waste daily.
- High-Level Policy Dialogue: Promoting International Cooperation and Multi Sectoral Coordination for Circular Agriculture: The High-Level Policy Dialogue, co-hosted by MARD and UNDP, aimed to raise awareness among stakeholders about the role of CE in achieving development goals in the agriculture sector, accelerating CE transition based on the principles of strengthening multilateral international cooperation and multi-sectoral coordination.
- Material flow analysis research for the packaging industry in Viet Nam: ISPONRE in collaboration with the Climate Compatible Growth Research Program conducted the research activity “Applying material flow analysis in a number of sectors in Viet Nam”.
- Events:
- Viet Nam National Circular Economy Forum 2024: The event will take place on 10 December at Melia Ha Noi Hotel. It is expected to shape the enabling conditions and present innovative solutions and practices to implement CE in Viet Nam. More information will be published closer to the event day.
- Workshop on Technical guidelines and Partnerships for wastewater reuse: This workshop on 11 December will focus on exploring demands on wastewater and sludge reuse, connecting businesses to participate in a pilot program implementing wastewater reuse solutions.
- Community Initiatives: This newsletter showcases inspiring community initiatives from Trong Duc Company, which transforms 5,000 tons of cocoa pod waste into valuable biochar annually, and Hung Yen’s industrial production facilities, which recycle up to 80% of their wastewater through circular treatment models. These examples highlight how local businesses are taking the initiative to embrace circularity and contribute to a more sustainable future.
