With the strategy “For a world without waste”, Coca-Cola Company aims to collect and recycle the equivalent of 100% of bottles and cans sold globally by 2030. Not only does it strive to collect and recycling, the company also aims to reduce the use of new plastic in packaging production. Therefore, the company has set a goal of using at least 50% recycled materials in product packaging globally by the year 2030. Currently, Coca-Cola has launched bottles made from 100% recycled plastic in more than 30 markets around the world.

“We want to ensure that all Coca-Cola plastic bottle products have multiple life cycles, aiming to support the circular economy in Vietnam. To achieve this goal, we need to have a sufficient supply of recycled plastic with quality standards for food production and safety for consumers. This is why Coca-Cola Vietnam and its partners are investing in PET plastic bottle collection and recycling activities,” said Mr. Leonardo Garcia, General Director of Coca-Cola Vietnam and Cambodia.
“We understand that there is still a lot of work to be done to contribute to reducing plastic waste in Vietnam, meanwhile, through educating users about the benefits of recycling and the ability to recycle used plastic bottles into new bottle, we see this as a big step in the right direction,” Mr. Garcia added.
In order to raise awareness and encourage recycling activities, in 2021, Coca-Cola has put the message “Recycle Me” prominently on the packaging of all products in Vietnam. SPRITE has also converted and replaced its signature green plastic bottles into transparent plastic bottles in the Vietnamese market to help plastic bottles have the best opportunity to add a new life cycle.
“We cannot solve this challenge alone and are working with partners, governments and industry experts to scale the solution, making Coca-Cola product packaging more sustainable ”, Mr. Garcia shared further.
Since 2018, Coca-Cola Vietnam has cooperated with many partners such as the Green Hub Green Development Support Center and domestic recycling units to support and have solutions to encourage plastic waste collectors in the informal sector – an important link in the recycling industry in Vietnam. In addition, with the cooperation of the Coca-Cola Foundation, the company also supports UNESCO programs to raise public awareness and seek creative ideas in plastic waste management in the World Biosphere Reserve.
