This virtual event will highlight the opportunities and challenges of investing in plastics circularity in Southeast Asia, long viewed as a hotspot for plastic pollution owing to its rapid urbanization, waste importation, and under-resourced infrastructure for waste management and recycling.

This challenge is increasingly being addressed by several countries in the region that have implemented national action plans and circular economy roadmaps. Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam have made significant progress by piloting and enabling legislation such as EPR schemes, plastic bag taxes, and plastic product restrictions. The private sector, including multinational corporations, private investors, and local businesses, is responding.

This session will cover success stories from the region and insights on enabling a conducive policy environment for investment. It will bring together diverse voices and stakeholders from the private and public sectors to further understand the interplay, and interdependency, between the two sectors and the role of policy in catalyzing private sector investment.

The event will also address the inclusion of financial mechanisms in the INC negotiations and showcase the importance of multi-stakeholder action and collaboration to advance capital flows towards a sustainable circular economy for plastics.

The event is perfect for you if you are

  • Investors in ESG, sustainability and plastics initiatives

  • Senior executives from development finance institutions (DFIs)
