Promoting innovation towards actualizing the circular economy in Viet Nam

One of the tasks listed in the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2021-2030 and numerous other resolutions of the Central Government in order to implement management, efficient use of natural resources, environmental protection, and response to climate change, contributing to the implementation of the policy of rapid and sustainable development of the country, is to promote the development of the circular economy. The Law on Environmental Protection 2020 introduces the circular economy for the first time (Article 142). The Government’s Decree No. 08/2022/ND-CP, dated January 10, 2022, detailing a number of articles of the Law on Environmental Protection, provides criteria, a roadmap, and a mechanism to encourage the development of the circular economy. (Articles 138, Article 139 and Article 140).

The Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and the Environment and Hanns Seidel Foundation organized a workshop with the theme “Promoting innovation towards a circular economy in Vietnam” with the aim of fostering academic and practical exchange and providing a forum for national and international scholars, experts, agencies, and organizations to discuss the scientific basis, international experience, and practice in Vietnam on the application of circular economy.
