The Viet Nam Circular Economy Hub (the CE Hub), hosted by United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), is a public-private partnership to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy in Viet Nam. In the framework of the CE Hub, we organize a series of meetups to enhance dialogue, generate know-how, and promote collaboration among enterprises and networks, providing them opportunities for the exchange of resources, materials, waste, and services.

With the rapid industrialization in Viet Nam, the demand for water in various industries is increasing, placing pressure on water supply systems. One effective solution to alleviate this pressure is the reuse of wastewater, offering numerous economic and environmental benefits, such as water conservation, financial gains, and reduced environmental impact. The importance of wastewater management and circularity is emphasized in the Law on Environmental Protection (LEP) 2020 and the Decree 08/2022, which guide its implementation. While these legal frameworks exist, detailed procedures, application guidance, and standards are yet to be formulated. This presents challenges for industrial zones looking to reuse and trade treated wastewater, in addition to obstacles related to accessing modern wastewater treatment technologies and securing financial resources for investment in wastewater treatment systems.

The Seminar on Circular Wastewater Treatment held in 2022 by the CE Hub provided valuable knowledge and international experience in wastewater treatment and circular wastewater practices for enterprises, and further highlighted the importance of promoting industrial wastewater reuse among key stakeholders. The dialogue “Bridging policy and industry to close the loop of industrial wastewater” aims to create a platform for dialogue between policymakers and enterprises and facilitate connections among businesses for resource and wastewater exchange.

The dialogue will take place in a hybrid format, offering both in-person and online participation. In-person attendance will be by invitation only, while the online mode is open to anyone interested in discussing and engaging in potential joint activities to support wastewater circularity in Viet Nam. Simultaneous translation between Vietnamese and English will be provided. Outcomes from the sessions will be documented and synthesized into open-source publications to serve as case studies and assisting in the development of new partnerships.
