In the context of increasingly depleted resources, a polluted environment, and fierce climate change, countries around the world, including Vietnam, are gradually shifting their models towards a weekly economy with the goal of sustainable development.
In fact, according to experts, the world has only brought 8.6% of production into circularity, while in 2019 this figure was 9.1%. Without close supervision of the paradigm shift, resource consumption by 2060 will probably double 2015. Hence, the complete transition from a linear economy to a circular economy is an indispensable requirement of the world, including Viet Nam.
There are many directions to upscale the circular economy. However, one of the subjects that need to be raised in awareness and capacity to transform the circular economy model is the small and medium enterprises group.
“Small and medium enterprises account for 96% of the total number of businesses in Viet Nam, employing 47% of the labor force and contributing 36% to the gross domestic product. The sector therefore plays a crucial role in increasing the adoption, implementation and operation of circular business models, low-carbon technologies, and clean technologies.” – Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP Resident Representative in Viet Nam highlighted.
With the aim to inspire and deliver practical guidelines for the transition towards circular economy principles and implementation, on June 2, 2022, The Netherlands Embassy in Viet Nam and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Circular Economy Capacity Building Program for businesses in Viet Nam.
The main activities of the program:
- Organized 03 training courses on circular economy for enterprises in Hanoi (and the northern provinces), Thua Thien Hue (and the central provinces) and Ho Chi Minh City (and the southern provinces).
