Tien Duc Straw

Tien Duc Straw is a social enterprise based in Hanoi that specializes in producing wooden straws from trees grown in artificial forests. From production forests, trees are cut into pieces, peeled by machine and then rolled into straws. Tien Duc wooden straws are made from high quality wood and are an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic straws. Wooden straws contain 100% natural materials and are completely biodegradable, helping to eliminate plastic waste from product production and packaging and ensuring that it is non-existent in the first place.

By producing products from artificial forests, Tien Duc contributes to one of the basic principles of the circular economy – regenerating the resource loop and improving the environment that businesses utilize for their operations and commercial business. Forests, like the seas, by storing carbon, play an important role in regulating global climate and local weather systems. When forests are degraded, a significant amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) is released into the atmosphere (through burning), causing carbon sinks to disappear from the ecosystem. According to the United Nations, the best way to save a forest is to manage it sustainably and benefit from the products and services of its ecosystem. Tien Duc Straw wants to maintain the life cycle of artificial forests by using them to provide essential, recyclable products while contributing to improving the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities.

Through its products, Tien Duc Straw always strives to promote circular consumption in the food, beverage and hotel sectors. Although there are certain challenges, such as changing consumer mindsets and habits, the business team is still making continuous efforts to enhance communication and education with target customers to convert the move away from plastic straws towards more sustainable alternatives. Tien Duc Straw is expanding its business scope in Vietnam and has exported its products to Asian and European countries.
