In the past time, the Institute of Strategy, Policy on natural resources and environment (ISPONRE) has cooperated with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to implement the “Initiative to establish a supermarket alliance to reduce the consumption of plastic bags– disposable feathers in Viet Nam” from November 2020 to April 2022. This is an activity within the framework of the “Rethinking Plastics” project (Rethinking Plastics) and funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented through the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the French Agency for International Technical Cooperation (Expertise France).
Within the implementation framework, the Initiative has established the “Retail Alliance to reduce plastic bag consumption” (hereinafter referred to as the Alliance) with the participation of supermarket chains and retailers to increase the use of plastic bags, contributing to reducing plastic waste, single-use plastic bags. Currently, there are 16 supermarket chains and retailers registered to join and support the Alliance.
In order to summarize the achieved results, as well as discuss about the upcoming activities of the Alliance, ISPONRE cooperated with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to organize a workshop to summarize the “The initiative to establish a supermarket alliance to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bags in Viet Nam”. Specific information is as follows:
