Boretech ships its first complete PaET bottle-to-bottle system to India

In February 2025, the provider of end-to-end PET recycling solutions Boretech successfully shipped the main equipment for a complete PET bottle-to-bottle recycling system to India. This marks Boretech’s first full-scale PET bottle-to-bottle system sold to the Indian market. The project comes at a pivotal moment as India has introduced the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules 2024, which set clear regulations on the recycled content and recycling rates for rigid plastic packaging.

The project officially commenced in February 2024 and is scheduled for commissioning in June 2025. Once fully operational, the production line will feature a processing capacity of 30,000 t/a of rPET flakes and 16,000 t/a of food-grade rPET pellets, enabling the customer to meet the 30% recycled content requirement mandated for 2025-2026.

The customer has opted for Boretech’s latest ES process washing technology, which features a highly integrated design that reduces land footprint by 25% and on-site labour requirements by 33%, lower initial investment and operational costs. The intensive washing technology is claimed to ensure near-zero chemical residue, while the enhanced hot-wash technology improves downstream filtration by 25% and reduces per-ton energy consumption by 13.3%.

Boretech has delivered a comprehensive system encompassing pre-treatment, twin-screw extrusion, pelletising, and Solid-State Polymerisation (SSP). The SSP stage incorporates continuous pre-crystallisation, crystallisation preheating, solid-state polymerisation, and final product cooling, ensuring that the rPET meets food-grade standards and is FDA-certified.

Boretech receives Positive Scientific Opinion from EFSA for its PET recycling technology

In November 2025, Boretech officially received a positive Scientific Opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for its PET recycling process brtCOMBIPET. This certification, completed in accordance with the latest EU Regulation (EU) 2022/1616, marks Boretech as one of the few PET mechanical recycling process providers worldwide to have passed this stringent assessment.

Since its formal implementation in September 2022, EU Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 has fundamentally reshaped the authorization framework for food-grade plastic recycling. The new regulation shifts the focus of process safety assessment from recyclers to technology developers and significantly raises requirements for cleaning efficiency and contaminant limits.

Faced with the more stringent evaluation criteria, Boretech proactively responded by leveraging its advanced bottle-to-bottle recycling technology system. With comprehensive and reliable challenge test data, Boretech successfully demonstrated that its PET recycling process fully meets all the scientific requirements set by EFSA for a “high-efficiency decontamination process.”

The EFSA expert panel confirmed that key stages in Boretech’s process, including extrusion, preheating, and solid-state polycondensation (SSP), are central to ensuring its exceptional decontamination efficiency. Test results indicate that the recycled PET produced by this process is safe and reliable. It can be used 100% in the production of food contact materials for all types of food (including drinking water) and is suitable for long-term storage at room temperature, low temperatures, and even under hot-fill conditions.

As per EU Regulation (EU) 2022/1616, the next step is for the European Commission to decide whether to grant authorization for the decontamination process based on EFSA’s positive Scientific Opinion and allocate the Recycling Process Authorization Number, RAN, which the process developer can license to PET recyclers.

Boretech remains committed to empowering global sustainability through innovative recycling technology, striving to serve as a solution provider and operational partner across the entire plastics recycling industry chain.
